AI Legal Readiness Checklist

Your company already uses AI.

Can your legal team answer these 7 questions? Check yourself below, then talk to us about the gaps.

The checklist

7 questions every legal team should be able to answer

Mark each one honestly. Anything you're not sure about is where a briefing earns its time.

  1. 1

Where is AI actually being used?

Include shadow AI and meeting notetakers; a federal court recently let wiretap claims against one proceed.

  2. 2

What data goes in, and where does it go?

Use approved tools; one court denied privilege to a defendant's public-chatbot conversations.

  3. 3

Is AI shaping decisions about people?

Illinois requires notice in employment now; California and Colorado add notice and explanation duties in 2027.

  4. 4

What can your AI agents do on their own?

Their clicks can bind you to contracts no one reviewed. Set spending limits, approvals, and logs.

  5. 5

Do your contracts and insurance cover AI failures?

California bars the "AI did it" defense, and major insurers are adding AI exclusions.

  6. 6

    Who owns the output?

Purely AI-generated work isn't copyrightable, so document the human contribution.

  7. 7

Are your people trained by role, and who responds when AI goes wrong?

A cloned voice, a bad output sent to a client, and a subpoena for prompts need three different playbooks.
